a GREAT blog for helping MOMS grow kids in FAITH // erikadawson.com

You want to lead your kids to Jesus.

Plain and simple.

You’ve heard quotes like Andy Stanley’s — “Your greatest contribution to the kingdom of God may not be something you do but someone you raise” — and you know that your spiritual influence on your kids might be the most significant ministry of your life.

But even though you know the importance,
Even though you feel the weight of its significance,
even though you know that walking with Jesus is the best hope you can give your kids,
You don’t always know how to do that.

Kids ask tough questions,
and then there’s their emotions!
How do you shepherd your kids’ hearts and minds when their emotions (and yours) seem to constantly change?

  • How do you help your child develop spiritual disciplines that don’t turn into mechanical habits or a report card proving their worth, or God-forbid, something they later resent?
  • How do you communicate the Gospel in a way that kids will understand? How do you teach theology and doctrine in a way that connects with the heart of your kids?
  • How do you help your child recognize and obey God’s voice when you struggle to do that yourself?
  • If you don’t have a growing prayer life or a regular quiet time, can you even expect your kids to have one?

Mama, I believe that if you are walking with Jesus, you can nurture in your kids an authentic, transforming faith.

Even if you don’t know all the answers.
Even if you have great room for growth.
Even if you’ve “messed it up” already or feel like you’re totally alone.

My goodness… So many tears. You’ve captured exactly what I’ve been feeling. I feel like you opened up my heart and wrote everything that spewed out.
(Cynthia)

I know I can’t keep my kids in a bubble, but it can be so hard to talk with them about things sometimes. You help me figure out the answers, and you always remind me and help me know how to keep God at the center of my life.
(Lauren)

As my kids get older, I haven’t found great faith focused resources to help me talk with my kids about major issues and even behavior and emotions, but you’re not afraid to talk about those things! Everything you write about is relevant. If I’m not going through it now, I already have or know I will.
(Megan)

I don’t want to ruin my kids, and I want to point them to Jesus, but so often I don’t know how to do that or what it looks like in normal life. I am so thankful for how you always point me back to God’s Word and help me do that for my kids too!
(Laura)

You can help your kids grow in their relationship with God!

  • Imagine seeing your kids run to Jesus when they’re afraid, upset, confused, or angry.
  • Imagine them listening to God’s voice, spending time in His Word (because they want to), and obeying Him!
  • Imagine growing together, loving God and others right along side of your kids.
  • Imagine sending your kids off into the world with a firm foundation of faith and faithfulness.

You don’t have to do it alone.

When you join the community here at Faithful Moms, you will be encouraged and equipped to nurture in your kids a life-changing faith in Jesus.

a SIMPLE way for moms to be consistent reading the Bible with their kids!!!

If I can, you can too.

Before I became a mom, I knew that introducing my kids to Jesus and helping them grow in their faith would be incredibly important and meaningful. But when we actually had kids, I realized how difficult that calling is!

Though I had been a Christian for a long time, I didn’t always know how to teach the Bible or Christian doctrine in a way my kids would understand. Add to that the challenges of talking with growing kids about sometimes awkward or difficult topics, I felt totally inadequate for the job! I knew we needed a firm foundation of prayer, but even then I didn’t always know how to pray — or how to make the time to pray faithfully.

I turned to books and blogs and the advice of other moms, but the resources and suggestions I found seemed to lack depth and often focused on good moral behavior rather than authentic, transforming faith in a God who saves!

I felt discouraged and alone until God showed me a whole new way to lead my family to Jesus. No longer was I searching for the perfect devotional or habit as the key to my kids’ faith. I started depending on God.

My own walk with God changed. No longer was I simply reading God’s Word, I was interacting with it — experiencing it, praying it, living it, and teaching it to my kids. I began listening to the Holy Spirit’s leading like never before, and I gathered friends for prayer and encouragement and support.

Leading my kids to Jesus is no longer a burden or another thing I feel guilty about not doing well; it’s interwoven into the fabric of our days. Like every family, we still face challenges and questions, but we now live without the pressure and guilt and fear that we’ll mess it all up.

The Gospel is no longer a story we tell but a living, breathing, daily reality in our family. We are authentically growing in Jesus together, and your family can too.

You are helping me SO MUCH in learning to pray for my kids. This is so relevant for my life at this time, and I’m sure many others can relate too.
(Kelly)

I love your thoughts and writing. It is amazing how your thoughts are so timely for me. God is definitely using you to minister to me and others.
(Susan)

I am so thankful for YOU!! What a blessing you are- to speak Truth even when it’s not popular. I love, love, love the way you write with no judgment and help me to consider my own family and help me listen to the Holy Spirit.
(Mandi)

You give such great encouragement for being purposeful and helping me protect the relationship I have with my kids while teaching them about God and the Bible.
(Hanna)
