Christmas is only 7 weeks away. Yep, I’m going there!
I know it’s not even Thanksgiving yet, but SEVEN weeks, people!
December seems to come faster and faster every year. By the time September hits, I try to prepare myself for the blink that October and November are, but every year, I am shocked at how quickly the months actually pass.
For the past few years — aka this season of lots of little people — I haven’t been the most prepared or thoughtful gift giver. I try, but inevitably, I find myself behind or scrambling to find “the perfect” gift at the last minute.
Like many others, we do a lot of our gift shopping from Amazon or ChristianBook.com or Dayspring. Well really, I appreciate anything online — braving the malls with 4 littles takes one determined Mama!
Recently, however, the way I’ve looked at gifts has changed.
This year, I am looking for gifts that keep on giving.
Gifts that Keep on Giving
Next week I will begin to share a few gift guides that focus on gifts that keep on giving.
A quick google search or a glance on pinterest, and you’ll find all kinds of gift guides. My goal with these is not to reinvent the wheel, but to share about some of the great people, products, and missions I’ve been introduced to this year. The guides aren’t comprehensive – and hopefully not overwhelming – but they are a great place to start if you’re looking for gifts that keep on giving.
My goal with these gift guides is to share products or ideas that will
- help us invest in people, not just companies
- enrich lives and provide experiences, not just add to the clutter of our homes and hearts
- allow us to invest in what matters.
Support People, not just Companies
I want to support people, not just companies. One way is to buy handmade/ homemade products and support other moms and families trying to make a living.
Another way to support people is to purchase items that give another person another shot at life. Buying fair trade, ethically sourced and manufactured items that provide a livelihood for those who otherwise couldn’t support themselves has become much more important to me.
Less stuff, More opportunity
I don’t just want to add more stuff to our lives or our shelves, so this year, I’m looking for gifts that won’t just clutter our homes but will enrich our lives or provide an experience.
Invest in what Matters
Some of these guides will include “stuff” but my hope is that this is the “stuff” that nurtures relationship and creativity and spiritual growth. If we’re going to buy gifts, let’s try to choose some that go beyond Target’s dollar bin or the latest fad in the toy store. Let’s try to invest in what matters and find gifts that keep on giving.
I’m so excited to share these ideas and opportunities with you, so make sure to come back next week to see our very first gift guide! If you don’t want to miss a post, Subscribe to receive these posts in your inbox!

Question for You:
When you think of a gift that keeps on giving, what people, products, or companies come to your mind?
