I’m finally finding five minutes to respond to Lisa Jo’s Five Minute Friday prompt: in between. {Better late than never?}
The thoughts don’t feel quite connected yet, but it is what came to mind and came out in the five minutes I sat down to write.
Blessings to each one of you, Friends, as we begin a brand new month!

Ok, Five Minute Friday. Here we go:
In Between
We’ve talked about what comes in-between: between 7 and 9, to be exact.
She tried 6. She guessed 10. Eight just seemed so hard to find.
Don’t I struggle with the same thing? I want to start strong and finish well, but the middle? The waiting? The in-between. That I want to fly through or skip over.
There’s a tension that pulls hard in the in-between. Waiting tests our resolve and wonder preoccupies our minds. Worry wins when the in-between stretches long, longer, longest. Waiting, wondering, worrying.
Sometimes I disdain the in between and forget her importance.
We learn from the past and plan for the future, always in a hurry to skip the present. But it is in this in-between that we are made. We are molded. We are.
Even now, the calendar reminds us of the in-between. July is knocking on June’s door, and we are stuck in the middle of 2013. We are no longer beginning a fresh new year and we are not yet into the home stretch.
But this in between — summer? We celebrate her and seize each moment. We are refueled and encouraged and we take time to linger and laugh and love long.
What we do now, in this in-between prepares us to finish well.
So I want to hold on to summer and the lessons she sings, reminding me that I am made in the in-between.

Hi Erika! Stopping by from Five a minute Friday. I loved this weeks prompt and enjoyed your words/work on “in between” . I walked the in between this week…allowing my daugher( who I adopted as an infant ) to have a sleepover with members of her birth family. The faith walk of open adoption grants me a lifelong experience of the in between. The holding on and letting go, the execution of trust and living the love. I knee deep in it right now…being molded. You are so right my friend… “We are”. “It is in this in-between that we are made”. Loved this and happy I stopped by.
WOW, Lisha! What an amazing testimony and opportunity you have! You definitely are living in the in-between, that push and pull tension of emotions and fears and dreams and love. SO thankful you stopped by and praying for you right now as your daughter is away!
Made and molded in the in between. I love this!
Thanks for posting! Loved the made and molded in the in between line too. So true.
“There’s a tension that pulls hard in the in-between. Waiting tests our resolve and wonder preoccupies our minds. Worry wins when the in-between stretches long, longer, longest. Waiting, wondering, worrying.” — Loved this! It is so true! Beautiful writing, Erika! Glad I stopped by from FMF. God bless you.~Cassandra

Oh, me too me too! :) I stopped by from 5MF and enjoyed perusing your blog and feel some sisterhood with you. My husband is also a good cook and I am living in a malaria-rich country. Blessings to you! ~sharon
