I am always looking for ways to build into my kids’ faith. I want to be sensitive to the work the Holy Spirit is doing in my kids – to be aware of the pauses, the wonderings, the questions and struggles, the awe-inspiring moments, and I want to follow God’s lead in walking with my kids through those moments.
There are also times, though, as a parent, that I can create context to join the Spirit in what He is doing.
I am super excited to share about a wonderful resource that helps us as parents create opportunity for faith-building experiences and discussions.
Our family has participated in and loved our church’s local Awana program, so when I was contacted by Awana headquarters to test out and share about their newest partnership with Sprout Box Kids, I was eager and excited!
Awana sent our family a Sprout Box to try out in exchange for us sharing our honest opinion with you! I don’t get paid for this, and these aren’t affiliate links; just me, sharing our experience and honest opinion with you.
Sprout Box Kids
If you’ve been reading here for any length of time or if you are part of the community on Facebook, you know that I LOVE gifts that are delivered directly to my front door. And when that item is a box filled with activities to invest in my kids’ faith? Even better.
My kids are 7, 5, 3, & 1, and all of them were enthusiastic and engaged in the activities included in our Sprout Box.
Organization
I was first impressed by how the boxes looked — the colors and graphics were appealing, the contents of the box were organized, and the activities looked fun.
All of the activities were packaged well and numbered to make following instructions easy. Even with eight grabby hands eager to open all. the. things., I was easily able to see what to do first.
Contents
The kids enjoyed all of the planned activities in the box. The contents in the box are broken down and labeled in 4 pieces:
1. Captivate —
In our box, the captivate activity was a puzzle. Piecing the puzzle together was easy for my 7 year old, but she always enjoys puzzles, even if one is too simple for her. The challenge was perfect for my 3 and 5 year old.
The best part of the puzzle, though, was that it linked to an app which made the puzzle come alive with a Bible story. It’s called augmented reality (AR). I don’t really know anything about AR, but it reminded me of a hologram from my old school 80s and 90s movies. The characters and stories jumped off the puzzle and came to life right in front of our eyes. The kids were even able to use their fingers to spin the globe!
We watched the Bible story “come alive” (through the puzzle and app working together) over and over and over again. We all thought it was so cool. What a fun way to learn about God’s Word! I was impressed, and my kids loved it.
2. Explore —
The storybook was beautiful. The full color illustrations and engaging text held my kids attention. They even asked to read the story a 2nd time — always a great thing when the story is based on God’s Word!
3. Guide —
This is the lesson portion of the box and is a step-by-step guide and lesson plan to help parents facilitate a Bible study with the kids.
The Parent Guide included a Scripture passage and discussion questions to facilitate conversation with the kids, and it also gave suggestions for simple activities to connect and extend the faith conversation into every day life. The ideas were simple, but I appreciated the simplicity of the lesson because I was able to follow where the Holy Spirit {and my kids} led the conversation without feeling like I had to “get back” to the lesson or skip a section. I also felt like the simpleness made the lesson manageable with 4 Littles vying for my attention!
4. Experience —
Every box has a hands-on activity to reinforce the Bible story. All of the supplies and materials needed are included (thank goodness!). Our activity was to paint peet pots and plant seeds. The kids love anything arts and crafty, and I even enjoyed this one because the three older kids worked together and completed the activity with very little help from me. I was busy keeping the baby from eating the peet pots, so I was especially thankful that this was an activity I could simply oversee, while still guiding the conversation, which tied to the Bible story and main objectives, of course.
My kids all really took to the characters introduced in our box. Even my 3-year old has been talking about Omari for weeks!
We loved our Sprout Box, and I was excited to share about this great resource with you.
The DownSide
However, I can’t give the box my full endorsement. I was super disappointed when I saw the price of the boxes. Currently, the price is listed at $24.99 per month, which includes a $10 launch discount.
You guys! The box is fabulous. It is well-done, engaging, and you know I love the idea behind it! However, most of us are stay at home moms who pinch pennies and work hard in an effort to supplement our family’s income or stave off any spending so we can make ends meet. I just feel like even the discounted price of $24.99 is too much for families.
In all fairness, the price is comparable to many other monthly subscription boxes, and we really can not place a value on investing in the faith of our children, but I know in our family, 34.99, or even 24.99 per month for one box, is just too high.

Hi I was very interested in having my son try Sproutbox but almost everything I click on doesn’t have a link to it. I found one but with all the scams out there I wanted to make sure they are still in business. Even on facebook they haven’t posted anything in years. Are you able to help me please?
